A 8"x 10" original giclée print on fine white art paper. A tribute to Marsha P. Johnson's life a legacy.
Marsha was many things to many people in her short life. She was loud. She was proud. And she was persecuted.
But she didn't let that stop her.
I was assigned a project to research someone that lived a different experience than me. Someone that was black, trans, and a sex worker seemed to be the farthest thing from my lived experience that I could imagine.
That's how I met Marsha.
And I instantly knew her story was one I needed to share for other people like me that didn't know about her and all that she did for community.
What I came to see was her humanity. Her fierceness in the face of inequality. Her willingness to live her life out loud. Her determination to make a space for others that were in need. Her struggles with mental health. Her anger and her perseverance.
Positive Discourse Co chooses to be a platform that informs and inspires conversation.
The protests against homo-phobia, police brutality, equity of care, and so much more began so long ago and continue today. We want to shed a light on Marsha and her work. She has inspired generations.
Launched as part of our PRIDE 2021 Collection we want to be a source of inspiration to share this and other stories, that reflect how far we've come and how much farther we have to go. We are happy to feature this all year long.
We support SAGE with sales from this collection. SAGE is an organization that supports GLTB Elders with services.
